Characters of All Creeds and Colors
This week marked the culmination of the Prismatic Guild’s biggest recruitment drive yet, with dozens of people from around Khorvaire and beyond flooding into Thronehold’s Port District for the welcoming ceremony that took place last night in the Prismatic Guildhall. New Guild initiates mingled for a while, the colorful lot of them getting to know the people that they would be working with for the time being, but the primary event of the night was a question and answer session with the captains of the Guild’s eight factions, moderated by Guild Recruiter Sebastian Greyrin.
To gather the meeting to order and answer questions for the Guild as a whole, Recruiter Greyrin took to the podium last night, smiling as always. He made sure to make everyone feel welcome, noting that everyone has a place in the Guild – even those whose appearances may be a bit more startling to the common townsfolk, or those tied to Dragonmarked Houses – and that everyone is offered room and board as long as they remain upstanding citizens and rise above conflicts of interest. Moving on to questions of faction logistics, Greyrin emphasized that one does not need to join a faction to be in the Guild, but if one feels called to join one, they will be welcomed, no matter what their skillset. Even if one does not fit the “mold” of a faction, their talents will be put to good use regardless.
Next to take the spotlight was Captain Juyenna ir'Teneuve of the Azure Guard. She began by charging listeners with upholding the trust afforded them by the Tribunal, and noted that the Azure Guard serves as a shield to those who need it most, as well as mentioning the healers that their faction holds. Though her austere presentation may be a bit intimidating, the Azure Guard is a constant source of comfort for those living within the walls of Thronehold.
Captain Reidang Vein rolled up to the podium next, giving a flashy illusory display and inviting anyone who wished to protect the wilds to join the Clover Conclave, seeking those with a “deep connection and love for the land and the creatures who live there.”
After her came Captain Ulberic of the Crimson Blades, characteristically blunt in his enthusiastic description of the Blades’ existence as swords for hire – muscle for gold, simple as that. He explained that the Guild works adjacent to the Tribunal, as a way of sidestepping the bureaucracy that comes with hiring other parties.
Dressed as sharply as ever, Captain Enola Poirot then explained the role of her Falcon Eyes as investigators working to “solve the crimes that no one else can,” slicing through the red tape that so often binds House Medani to get to the root of the trickiest crimes from murder to tax fraud. She provided clarity with regards to greater Guild matters as well, noting that all factions – not just her own – can and do work with other factions on certain tasks, and though they may work for free on a case-by-case basis, Guild members will always be compensated for a job well done.
Captain Kriv of the Order of the Copper Dragon spoke next, extolling the virtues of searching for the secrets of the past. His demeanor and tone spoke volumes of the faction as one that breaks the mold of the common scholar, welcoming all who are “not afraid to face great danger to uncover the great truths of the world,” and condemning exclusivist branches of scholars – though they have no treasure trove of knowledge, anyone seeking to learn can and will do so under the oversight of Captain Kriv.
Whereas other may have waxed eloquent, Captain Daja of the Silent Whispers was concise and clear: her faction specializes in the kind of work that goes unnoticed, “acquisition and information” gathered under cover of darkness. Notably, she mentioned that both her faction and Kriv’s, as well as the rest of the Guild, works to quell the stirrings of war, not encourage them.
Next up: Captain Dash of the Silver Wolves. The “best trackers you can find,” “sniffing out and reporting any dangers” that may threaten Thronehold or the Guild, “from simple spies to full on infiltrators.” She invited hunters, trackers, and scouts to join her ranks.
Last to step up was Captain Sam of the Sunstone Lotus, searching for “those who wish to create, evolve, and elucidate.” The flashy changeling noted that the calling of the Lotus is to better the world through culture and art – even if that art is nontraditional. They boasted of members that are physical artists, performance artists, artisans, and even politicians.
All in all, the Q+A session proved to be useful, the room abuzz with discussion surrounding the various factions long after the podium was vacated. Readers, if you find something within you stirring as you read this, go on down to the Port District, for there’s a place for you within the Prismatic Guild – and if you’re already a member and seek to join a faction, prove yourself and express interest. You’ll find your home soon enough.
