Freedom from Silver Chains
This week, Keeper of the Flame Jaela Daran not only publicly erased Church of the Silver Flame sanctions against innate evil, but also unnatural evil. As a shifter out of Droaam who has spent my entire life fearing those Tarnished that hunt me and my friends in the name of their religion, I could not be happier about this.
This change means freedom from those who have sought to oppress me, and a chance to take Guild missions in Breland, Aundair, and especially Thrane where I might not have before.
I wonder, however, how Keeper Daran intends to enforce this change in the Church. When Keeper Tagor announced her intention to remove the concept innate evil from the strictures, she was met with doubt and hostility. Many still see Daran as a child, and I worry that this will be met with resistance. How many will call her naïve instead of wise beyond her years?
People will doubtless shout for her removal, fearing dangers from undead and lycanthropes. But I have fought alongside lycans and undead many a time, and have only found harm when the lycan or mage controlling the undead wished to do me harm, deliberately choosing evil.
One cannot define an entire race or subgroup of people as evil. Let us not do so to our shifter friends, our medusa friends, our Karrnathi friends. Let us push forward into a new age of friendship between not just Thrane and the Eldeen Reaches, but also Thrane and Droaam. Let us rise up to support Jaela Daran and put old quarrels behind us.
