Dark and Stormy

Adventurers from the Prismatic Guild had completed a task deep in Breland and were on their way back to Sharn to catch the lightning rail when, ironically, they had to seek shelter because of a strong storm. The severe thunderstorm was encountered in the plains near Zilspar, and the guild members found shelter in some nearby ancient ruins. This location is known to historians as it dates well back to the time of the Dhakaani Empire.

Hightower, built atop a rocky tor, had not been explored as all its entrances had previously been sealed. The adventurers serendipitously came upon a massive entrance that had been blasted open by lightning from the very storm they had been fleeing. Once inside they first had to deal with a rat infestation, and then a series of trials left by the crypt builders. These trials did seem to be too much for one of the guild members, who fled the tor and was not seen again. Luckily this fleeing member was seen leaving the ruins by another Prismatic Guild member, who headed in the opposite direction and joined the others within the ruins.

Once the final team (Aurora, Gamber, Gin, Gunnar, Stheno, and Zephilia) was assembled they explored further into the ruins. One trial left by the builders was a chamber housing an upright sarcophagus. Instead of finding the remains undisturbed, the party found that the dead body’s head had fallen to the floor nearby, and a lesser Vargouille had made a nest atop the neck of the dead figure. One would think this a very dangerous situation to find one’s self in, but Gamber immediately reacted by precisely shooting at the head with their bow, at which time Zephilia runs up and jumps to the top of the sarcophagus in an attempt to deliver a killing blow. Gamber then again shoots at the foul creature, putting its existence to an end.

In the middle of their exploration, a gang of raiders from Darguun who had also tried to use the storm’s cover to loot the crypt attempted to kill the adventurers. Having fought their way past their competitors, and putting an end to two giant spiders that had taken issue with all the noise, they eventually found the remains of a Ghoul’dar champion; a great undead bugbear.

The undead bugbear fought violently, but the Prismatic Guild training proved effective in the end.

All together, the party found many ancient Dhakaani artifacts within the ruins and returned them to the Guild.
